On the evening of February 16, 2024, a devastating explosion shattered the entire community of Seneca Ridge and surrounding neighborhoods. A leaking 500-pound propane tank destroyed the home at 347 Silver Ridge Dr. After a passerby reported the smell of gas, the homeowner called 911, and firefighters evacuated the residents. Tragically, just after the evacuation, the gas ignited, causing the house to explode.
The aftermath left 2 civilians and 12 brave first responders with significant injuries, including the heartbreaking Line of Duty Death (LODD) of Firefighter Trevor Brown (pictured to the left) of the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
Picking Up The Pieces
It is now fall. The investigation is over, the rubble is gone and the empty lot remains. The owner must sell the lot and move forward in life. However, many see this lot as sacred ground and do not feel it is appropriate to rebuild a house there. They would like to have space set aside to honor and memorialize Trevor’s ultimate sacrifice, and the trials and tribulations of the other first responders present that night who responded to the community’s call for help.
The Seneca Ridge community is dedicated to creating a memorial park to honor Firefighter Trevor Brown’s ultimate sacrifice and the efforts of the first responders on scene that night. With the support of the Brown family, we have launched a fundraiser to raise funds for purchasing the property and covering legal, construction, and maintenance costs. Firefighter Brown Memorial Park will serve as a tribute to Trevor’s sacrifice and the selfless service of all volunteer firefighters. Steven Honard will oversee the funds to ensure the vision becomes a reality.
K&H Landscaping is deeply honored to be part of this meaningful project. Our owner, Kris, and Director of Operations, Randy, serve on the board of the Firefighter Brown Memorial Park Foundation, which is dedicated to creating a memorial park at the site of the tragic explosion. As part of our commitment to community, K&H is leading the park’s renovation and proudly donating our landscaping services to help bring this vision to life.
